Privacy Policy

Price Pair helps people compare grocery prices and build a cheaper shopping plan. This policy explains what information we use to provide that service and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

Price Pair is a grocery price-comparison application operated from Malawi. In this policy, “Price Pair”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the Price Pair service, including its mobile apps, website and API.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you create or use an account, we receive your email address, display name where provided, email-verification status, Firebase user identifier and sign-in provider.

Subscription and payment information

We keep your selected plan, payment provider, amount, currency, payment status, transaction reference and subscription dates. Payment providers process your payment details; Price Pair does not store full card or mobile-money credentials.

Shopping lists and checklist activity

Your shopping lists, quantities and checked-off items are currently stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to the Price Pair server. Removing the app or clearing its storage may remove this local information.

Product engagement and catalogue requests

When you open a product, add it to a shopping list, submit a catalogue request or upvote one, we use a randomly generated app-installation identifier to count interest. The server immediately converts that identifier to a one-way hash and does not store the original identifier. Product opens and list additions are limited to one count per product, action, installation and day.

Optional notifications

If you enable notifications, we store a push token, a one-way hash of your app-installation identifier, your notification preferences and saved-product watches, and records needed to deliver and display your alerts. You can decline notifications in the app or change permission in your device settings.

Technical information

Our servers may receive ordinary request information such as IP address, device or browser details, request time and diagnostic logs. We use this information to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service.

App promotion measurement

Meta App Events receives app install, launch and session signals, together with app and device information, to measure Price Pair promotions on Facebook and Instagram. On Android, this may include the advertising identifier where available. On iOS, we ask for Apple's tracking permission after the app opens. If you decline, we do not enable Meta app-event logging or advertiser ID collection. If you allow it, Meta may receive the iOS advertising identifier where available.

3. How we use information

• Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
• Restore and carry subscription access across your devices.
• Process, verify and support payments and entitlements.
• Deliver the product catalogue, prices, promotions and comparison features.
• Send the price and account alerts you choose to receive.
• Understand which products people find useful and prioritise requested additions.
• Measure installs and app opens from our Facebook and Instagram app promotion campaigns.
• Prevent fraud, investigate faults and protect the service.
• Comply with legal, tax, accounting and payment obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We use Meta App Events for app promotion measurement, not to show ads inside Price Pair.

4. Services that help us operate

We share only the information needed for service providers to perform their role:

• Firebase Authentication, Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple for account identity and sign-in.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service for optional alerts.
• Meta App Events for Facebook and Instagram app promotion measurement.
• PayChangu for supported local payment processing.
• Apple for purchases made through Apple's App Store.
• Hosting and infrastructure providers that run and protect the Price Pair API.

Those providers handle information under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer with appropriate safeguards.

5. Retention

We retain account and subscription information while your account is active and for only as long as needed for the purposes above. When you delete your account, we delete your Firebase identity, Price Pair profile, subscriptions and entitlements.

If you use referrals, we keep referral codes, reward counts, claim dates and keyed fingerprints of email addresses to prevent repeat claims and enforce the lifetime reward limit. These records remain after account deletion for the duration of the referral programme; the link to your deleted account is removed. Referral records do not contain your raw email address and are not shown to other users.

We may retain a minimal, anonymized payment record where required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, disputes or refunds. It is no longer linked to your Price Pair account, and cached checkout links and gateway response payloads are removed.

6. Your choices and rights

You may access basic account and subscription details in the app, correct your account details through your sign-in provider, or delete your account using our deletion page. Depending on applicable law, you may also ask us for access, correction, restriction, objection or a copy of personal information we hold.

7. Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including authenticated API access and restricted production credentials. No service can guarantee absolute security. Some providers may process information outside Malawi, subject to their contractual and legal safeguards.

8. Children

Price Pair is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information so we can investigate and remove it.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Price Pair changes. We will publish the revised policy here and change the “Last updated” date.
